Music & Sheet Music Licensing Policy
Effective Date: September 15, 2026
J. Allen Tracy Music House creates music and resources for singers, musicians, churches, choirs, ministries, and listeners.
We want our music to be sung, played, shared through ministry, and used to encourage others. At the same time, the music, recordings, arrangements, sheet music, accompaniment tracks, and performance materials represent creative work that must be protected against unauthorized copying, distribution, and resale.
This Music & Sheet Music Licensing Policy explains what you may—and may not—do with products purchased from J. Allen Tracy Music House.
1. Purchase Grants a License, Not Copyright Ownership
When you purchase music, sheet music, a Performance Pack, accompaniment track, or other copyrighted product from J. Allen Tracy Music House, you are purchasing the right to use that product according to the applicable license.
You are not purchasing the copyright to the music, lyrics, arrangement, recording, or other creative material.
All rights not specifically granted under this policy remain reserved by the applicable copyright owner.
2. Individual Sheet Music License
Unless a product specifically states otherwise, the purchase of one individual sheet-music product includes an Individual License authorizing one printed or usable copy.
An Individual License does not authorize the purchaser to make copies for an entire choir, ensemble, congregation, class, ministry, or organization.
If additional performers require copies, an appropriate multiple-copy license must be purchased.
3. Multiple-Copy Sheet Music Licenses
J. Allen Tracy Music House may offer multiple-copy licenses for churches, choirs, ensembles, schools, ministries, and other organizations.
Our standard licensing levels are:
-
Individual License — 1 Copy
Authorizes one usable copy.
-
Small Ensemble License — Up to 10 Copies
Authorizes no more than 10 usable copies.
-
Choir License — Up to 25 Copies
Authorizes no more than 25 usable copies.
-
Large Choir License — Up to 50 Copies
Authorizes no more than 50 usable copies.
-
Extended Choir License — Up to 100 Copies
Authorizes no more than 100 usable copies.
The quantity specified by the license is the total number of copies authorized under that license.
For example, a 25-copy Choir License permits a maximum of 25 copies. It does not authorize 25 additional copies for each performance, year, choir season, or subsequent use.
4. More Than 100 Copies
Standard multiple-copy licenses do not authorize more than 100 copies.
Churches, ministries, schools, mass choirs, conferences, conventions, associations, or other organizations requiring more than 100 copies must obtain written authorization from J. Allen Tracy Music House.
Custom licensing may be available based upon the size and nature of the intended use.
Contact:
for licensing requirements involving more than 100 copies.
5. License Applies to One Purchasing Organization
A multiple-copy license applies only to the individual, church, choir, ensemble, ministry, school, or organization for which it was purchased.
A licensed organization may not distribute the digital master file or authorized copies to unrelated organizations.
For example, a church purchasing a 50-copy license may produce up to 50 authorized copies for use by its own licensed group. It may not provide the music or master PDF to other churches so that they can produce their own copies.
Each separate organization must obtain its own appropriate license unless J. Allen Tracy Music House provides written authorization for a broader use.
6. Digital Master Files
When sheet music is supplied as a downloadable PDF or other digital file, the purchaser may retain the master file for legitimate use under the purchased license.
The master file itself may not be:
-
Posted publicly online
-
Uploaded to a file-sharing service for others to download
-
Emailed or distributed to unrelated organizations
-
Sold or resold
-
Given away as a substitute for purchasing the music
-
Placed in a publicly accessible digital library
-
Used to produce more copies than the applicable license permits
Reasonable internal electronic distribution to authorized members of the licensed group is permitted only when necessary for their participation and only when the total number of authorized usable copies—digital and printed combined—does not exceed the licensed quantity.
7. Printed and Digital Copies Count Toward the Same Limit
The licensed quantity applies to the total number of usable copies, whether printed on paper or supplied electronically.
For example, under a 25-copy Choir License, an organization could provide 20 printed copies and 5 authorized digital copies.
It could not provide 25 printed copies plus 25 digital copies.
The total authorized copies would remain 25.
8. Replacement Copies
A damaged, lost, or unusable authorized copy may be replaced without purchasing another license, provided the replacement does not increase the total number of usable copies beyond the quantity authorized by the license.
Replacing a copy does not create an additional licensed copy.
9. Live Church and Ministry Performance
Purchased music and performance materials may generally be used for ordinary live performances in churches, worship services, ministry events, rehearsals, and similar noncommercial settings when the performers are using properly licensed materials.
This permission does not eliminate any separate obligations a church, venue, broadcaster, organization, or event operator may have concerning public-performance rights, blanket licenses, or other rights administered by third parties.
10. Solo Performance Packs
A Solo Performance Pack is licensed to the purchaser for use in preparing for and giving live performances.
Unless the product description states otherwise, a Solo Performance Pack does not include sheet music.
The purchaser may use the included accompaniment or performance track for their own authorized live performances.
The purchaser may not:
-
Give or sell the accompaniment track to another performer
-
Upload the original track for others to download
-
Include the original track in another product for sale
-
Claim ownership or authorship of the underlying music or recording
-
Redistribute the Performance Pack
Another performer wishing to independently use the Performance Pack should purchase their own appropriate license.
11. Complete Performance Packs
Complete Performance Packs may contain multiple resources, such as sheet music, accompaniment tracks, reference recordings, vocal materials, or other performance resources.
The exact contents of each Complete Performance Pack will be identified in the applicable product description.
Each component remains subject to its applicable licensing restrictions.
The inclusion of sheet music in a Complete Performance Pack does not automatically authorize unlimited reproduction of that sheet music.
If multiple performers require sheet-music copies, the appropriate multiple-copy license must be obtained unless the product description expressly includes a stated number of authorized copies.
12. Accompaniment and Instrumental Tracks
Purchased accompaniment and instrumental tracks may be used by the licensed purchaser for rehearsals and authorized live performances.
Unless additional permission is expressly granted, the original track may not be:
-
Resold
-
Shared with unrelated performers
-
Uploaded for public download
-
Distributed through file-sharing networks
-
Included in another commercial product
-
Repackaged and sold
-
Presented as the purchaser's own original recording
-
13. Church Livestreams and Archived Services
J. Allen Tracy Music House permits its properly licensed music and performance materials to be used in ordinary noncommercial church or ministry livestreams and in archived recordings of those services, subject to this policy and any other rights or licenses that may apply.
This permission is intended to allow a church or ministry to share its normal worship services with members and viewers online without violating the J. Allen Tracy Music House product license solely because the service is streamed or archived.
However, this permission does not grant rights controlled by third parties and does not guarantee that platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, or other services will not apply their own copyright-management procedures.
14. Standalone Online Performances
A recording or video featuring a performer singing or playing a J. Allen Tracy Music House composition may involve rights beyond the purchase of sheet music or a Performance Pack.
A purchased accompaniment track may not be uploaded by itself or made available as a downloadable file.
If you plan to commercially release, monetize, distribute, synchronize, broadcast, or otherwise commercially exploit a recorded performance using J. Allen Tracy Music House material, additional permission or licensing may be required.
Contact us when you are uncertain whether your intended use is covered.
15. Commercial Recordings and Releases
Purchasing sheet music or a Performance Pack does not automatically grant permission to commercially record and release a composition.
Anyone wishing to commercially distribute a recording of a J. Allen Tracy Music House composition should obtain any licenses or permissions required under applicable copyright law.
This may include mechanical, synchronization, master-use, or other rights depending upon the intended use.
Contact J. Allen Tracy Music House for assistance concerning music controlled by us.
16. Alterations and Arrangements
Reasonable performance adjustments may be made when necessary for a licensed performance, such as adapting dynamics, tempo, instrumentation, or vocal distribution to suit the performers.
However, purchasing music does not grant ownership of the underlying composition or unrestricted rights to create, publish, sell, distribute, or license a derivative arrangement.
Substantial new arrangements intended for publication, distribution, sale, or commercial exploitation require appropriate permission.
17. Copyright Notices
Copyright notices, composer or arranger credits, catalog numbers, publisher identification, watermarks, or other ownership information included with J. Allen Tracy Music House products should not be intentionally removed or obscured.
Authorized copies should retain the copyright and ownership information appearing on the original material.
18. Prohibited Uses
Unless specifically authorized in writing, you may not:
-
Sell or resell our digital files
-
Give purchased files away
-
Share master PDFs with unlicensed organizations
-
Exceed the authorized sheet-music copy quantity
-
Upload our sheet music for public downloading
-
Upload original accompaniment tracks for others to obtain
-
Place purchased materials in unrestricted shared drives or public libraries
-
Claim authorship or ownership of our compositions, arrangements, recordings, or materials
-
Remove copyright or ownership information
-
Use one organization's license to supply copies to another organization
-
Convert purchased materials into another product for resale
-
Use our materials in a manner that infringes applicable copyright or intellectual-property rights
-
19. What You ARE Encouraged to Do
We don't want licensing language to obscure why this music exists.
With the proper license, we encourage you to:
-
Sing the music
-
Play the music
-
Teach it to your choir
-
Rehearse it with your ensemble
-
Perform it in worship
-
Use it in ministry
-
Share its message with your congregation
-
Include performances in ordinary church livestreams
-
Return to properly licensed music for future performances
-
Use the music to encourage, worship, praise, and minister to others
The license protects the music. It is not intended to prevent the music from being used for ministry.
20. License Duration
Unless a product or license states otherwise, an authorized purchaser may retain properly purchased materials and use them again for future authorized performances.
A multiple-copy license does not automatically expire after one performance or one choir season.
However, the maximum number of usable copies may never exceed the quantity originally licensed unless an additional or expanded license is purchased.
21. Expanding an Existing License
If your choir or ensemble grows beyond the number of copies originally licensed, please obtain an appropriate expanded license before producing additional copies.
For example, if you originally obtained a 25-copy Choir License and later require 40 copies, you must obtain sufficient additional licensing to authorize the increased number of copies.
Contact J. Allen Tracy Music House if you need assistance determining the appropriate license.
22. Unauthorized Use
Unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted material may violate this Licensing Policy and applicable copyright law.
When we become aware of unauthorized use, we may request that the material be removed, that unauthorized copies be destroyed or deleted, or that appropriate licensing be obtained.
We reserve the right to pursue other remedies when necessary to protect our copyrighted works and intellectual property.
23. Special Permission and Custom Licensing
We understand that ministries and musical organizations sometimes have needs that do not fit neatly within a standard license.
Examples may include:
-
Mass choirs
-
Conferences and conventions
-
Large combined choirs
-
Touring ministries
-
Schools or educational programs
-
Large-scale productions
-
Commercial recordings
-
Broadcast productions
-
Special digital distribution
-
Uses requiring more than 100 copies
We welcome inquiries about these uses.
Written permission or custom licensing may be available depending upon the circumstances.

Product-specific licensing terms, when applicable
If a particular product contains licensing terms that provide additional rights, those additional rights apply to that product.
Nothing in this policy limits rights that cannot legally be restricted under applicable law.
25. Licensing Questions
If you are uncertain whether a particular use is permitted, please contact us before making additional copies or distributing the material.
We would much rather help you obtain the correct license than have a church, choir, musician, or ministry unintentionally misuse copyrighted material.
